The Skull Your skull protects your brain. The skull is part of your head. A Fun Fact is the special senses of sight, hearing, smell and taste are all in the skull. The skull looks like one bone but is actually 28. The cranium is made up of 8 bones. It is the chief protector of the brain. The face has 14 bones, and each ear has 3 tiny bones, called Ossicles, that allow you to hear.

The Spine Your spine lets you twist. It forms a vertical supporting rod for the head, arms, and legs. It allows us to stoop and squat, to turn and nod your head and twist your shoulders and hips. An intervertebral disk is between the vertebrae and it is made of cartilage. Your spine is made of 26 bones in all.

Facts About The Ribs Your Ribs protect your heart. All 12 ribs are connected to your back bone. Also they protect your lungs and liver. In front there is two floating ribs. Usually people have 12 little rib bones. A fun fact about your ribs is that at the back they connect to vertebrae. Your ribs allow you to breath. Also they protect the other parts of the upper abdomen.

Your femur Your femur is located in your leg. Your femur is also called your thigh bone. That means it is in your thigh. It is on top of your fibula. It is the bone inside your thigh. The femur is made of only one bone. You know you have broke your femur when your thigh is really, really, really hurting. A really cool fact about the femur is that the femur is the longest bone in the whole skeletal system. The femur Is attached to a bone called the pubis. Your pubis is located in your hip and is one of the three hip bones [that is your pubis not your femur].

What the bones are made of The bones are made of cartilage. It is also made of periosteum. A fun fact about what the bones are made of is the bones are made of three things. One is osseous one is bony substance and the last one is bone marrow. An other fun fact is your bones are alive! It is because they grow with you.

How to take care of your bones You can take care of your bones by drinking milk and eating healthy foods. If you can ride a bike you can take care of your bones by wearing a helmet. Some people are small and they do not need to drink as much milk. If you are big you will need to drink more milk. When you skate board you should wear knee guards and wrist guards. That is how to take care of your BONES!
