Second Moment: Point of Commitment Challenges will come –James says “rejoice” (James 1:2-4, 12) –Challenges are practice sessions Abraham was 100 (Hebrews 11:17-19) –Challenges refine us (2 Peter 1:6-9) –Refined iron is valuable (1 Peter 1:6-9)
Third Moment: Times of Conflict Every life has conflict –Conflict with individuals –Conflict with groups Conflict from without –Persecution (1 Peter 4:4) –Tries one’s faith (Mark 4:16, 17) –Overcome (Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:12)

Fourth Moment: Calm Times Day to day routine –Not always times of challenge and conflict –Most days will be routine, even dull –Must walk by faith then as well –Abraham walked by faith then too (Genesis 12:8; 13:3, 4, 18; 21:33)
Fourth Moment: Calm Times Not all of life spent on the mountaintop –What we do in between also defines us –Recall Elijah (1 Kings 18:20-40; 19:9) –Has to do with outlook and attitude (1 Peter 3:10-15)
Fourth Moment: Calm Times Must live by faith then as well –Watching and waiting (Proverbs 8:34, 35) –Looking to God (Matthew 6:11, 33) –Praying and studying (Acts 17:11) –Denying self and following (Luke 9:23) –Exhorting and encouraging (Hebrews 3:13)
