Kinect Hacked!! Now what… Exploring the affordances of Microsoft Kinect David Park Suchit Dubey Tarun Chakravorty

Project outline Finally the Microsoft Kinect is out and its hacked, software are available We will explore what these hacks now enable us to do in terms of creativity. Use these hacks to develop new art installations and create engaging experiences

Motivation Kinect hacks have opened up new possibilities related to user interaction. A new, unexplored area has been introduced by the Kinect, gestures involving the entire human body.

Scenarios of use

Idea 1: Use gestures to reveal hidden masterpieces

Idea 2: Use your body to create your own art

Methodology Use Microsoft Kinect to create interactive art installation. Single person interactions in museum or galleries with the installations. Generate scenarios, develop the system, get user feedback and the iterate the system.

Related work “I don’t understand it either, but it is cool” - visitor interactions with a multi-touch table in a museum – Horizontal Interactive Human Computer Systems, TABLETOP rd IEEE International Workshop on

Outcome Study of the possibilities available through Kinect hacks. Exploration of various methods of interaction using gestures and body movements to create art pieces. Figure the challenges involved in motivating users to perform such interactions. Implement the aforementioned ideas.

Thank you!
