RATIOS

Ratio: A Definition A comparison of numbers Use a colon ( : ) between numbers as a ratio Ex. The number of cans of water added to a can of frozen juice concentrate to make juice 3 cans of water to one can of concentrate or 3 to 1, or 3:1

Examples of Ratio You have 4 dimes, 2 quarters, 6 nickels, and 12 pennies Dimes to nickels4:6put in lowest terms ÷ 2 = 2:3 Pennies to dimes12:4put in lowest terms ÷ 4 = 3:1 Nickels to pennies to quarters6:12:2 Put in lowest terms ÷ 2 = 3:6:1

1.How many squares to triangles are there? 6:3 ÷ 3  2:1 2. Unshaded circles to shaded circles? 4:2 ÷ 2  2:1 3. Shaded to unshaded? 7:8 4.Unshaded triangles to shaded squares to all shapes? 2:4:15

Using Equivalent Ratios 1.x/3 = 6/9÷ 3 x = 2 2.4/x = 28/49÷ 7 x = 7 3.5/2 = 25/xx 5 x = 10 4.x:9 = 6:27 Written as x/9 = 6/27÷ 3 x = 2

Ratio can be Written as a Fraction, Decimal, or Percent Ratio5:8 Fraction5/8 Decimal – divide numerator by denominator – 5 ÷ 8 = Percent – take decimal and multiply it by 100 – x 100 = 62.5%
