Jorvik – a Viking City

The Viking Capture of York Coppergate Helmet Viking raids on Britain began in AD793 with the attack on the monastery in Lindisfarne. The Vikings attacked York on the 1 st November 866. In 868 the Viking army left for the Midlands, but a garrison was probably left behind in the city.
