James Teaches Pride and Judgment James 4:11-12

James 4:12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. 11 Do not speak evil against one another, brothers.

REFLECTION 22: Pride seeks self-exaltation

James 2:8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. …

REFLECTION 22: Pride seeks self-exaltation James 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

REFLECTION 22: Pride seeks self-exaltation Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

REFLECTION 22: Pride seeks self-exaltation James 5:19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

REFLECTION 22: Pride seeks self-exaltation 1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

REFLECTION 22: Pride seeks self-exaltation

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge

James 4:12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge Job 40:1 And the L ORD said to Job: 2a “Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? … 8 Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right? 9 Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge 10 “Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor. 11 Pour out the overflowings of your anger, and look on everyone who is proud and abase him. 12 Look on everyone who is proud and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand.

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge 13 Hide them all in the dust together; bind their faces in the world below. 14 Then will I also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you.

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the L ORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge Romans 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge Deuteronomy 32:3 For I will proclaim the name of the L ORD ; ascribe greatness to our God! 4 “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge 2 Samuel 22:31 This God—his way is perfect; the word of the L ORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

REFLECTION 23: There is only one lawgiver and judge
