L.I. To learn how to write a correct bibliography for: bibliography for: –Books –Magazines –Internet Sources –Interviews –Newspapers

Why do we write bibliographies? To acknowledge our sources (show where we found the information) To give our readers information to identify and consult our sources To make sure our information is accurate To show academic honesty

What if we don’t include a bibliography? This is called plagiarism (using another person’s words, pictures or ideas without giving them credit). To avoid plagiarism, we give credit to our sources by citing them in our bibliography.

Here is an example of a Bibliography for a book : Goldman, Daniel. The Life of Michael Jordan. New York: Bantam, Last name, First name. Name of book. City of publication: Publisher’s name, year.

Book Title Author INSIDE: City of Publication, Publisher’s name & year of Publication Schell, Michael J. Baseball’s All- Time Bibliography Best Hitters. New York: Bantam, 1993.

Here is an example of a Bibliography for an Encyclopedia : “White Tiger.” Encyclopedia Britannica ed. “Article Title.” Name of Encyclopedia. year edition.

Title of Encyclopedia The edition is found somewhere on the cover or spine The article title, is found with in the encyclopedia. Bibliography “Star Wars.” Encyclopedia of Science Fiction ed.

Here is an example of a Bibliography for an internet source: Author/writer/creator name, Name of article on website or website name, date updated or published,, (date visited) Example: Li, Zijun. Half of Chinese Cities Have Polluted Groundwater, (6, Dec., 2005) (visited 24, April, 2009)

Here is an example of a Bibliography for a magazine article : “Price, Sean. “Hunting Spiders.” Kids Discover Spider Feb. 2003: Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Name of Magazine date month. year: volume number. Pages.

Name of the magazine Date The name of the author, the title of the article, and the page numbers are found within the article, while volume is usually on the cover or the spine of the magazine. Bibliography Walters, John. “A Child’s World.” LIFE. 28 Feb. 1949:

Here is an example of a bibliography for a Newspaper Article (i) Author(s) (ii) (Year of publication) (iii) Title of article (iv) Name of newspaper (in italics, in Title Case) (v) Date and month of publication, page references Curtis, P. (2009) 'Universities must reveal data on dropout rates and teaching time', The Observer, 1 November, p.8.

Here is an example of a Bibliography for an interview : Goodman, Mary. Personal interview. 4 Sept Last Name, First Name. Personal/Telephone interview. date month. year.

Be sure to indent 5 spaces when a citation continues onto a second until the end of the citation, and always end citations with a period. Place citations in alphabetical order by the first word of each citation. When information needed for the citation is missing, just leave the missing information out and continue with the next part of the citation.
