3 Federal Aviation Administration Runway Safety NextGen Initiatives May 15, 2008 Purpose: Respond to action item from AOA-1 to evaluate new technologies and to verify the runway safety benefits and performance. Plan: –Focus on airports with historical problems with PD’s and evaluate the PD’s to determine how many might have been prevented or mitigated if the crew had had an Airport Moving Map with ownship position –Financially the scope for FY- 08 will be limited to available funding, and will not exceed $5M due to reprogramming limitations. Purpose and Scope

4 Federal Aviation Administration Runway Safety NextGen Initiatives May 15, 2008 Project Status Airports have been analyzed and prioritized Equipment and software to be tested has been identified A Sample Cooperative Agreement has been approved by Legal and Contracts Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP) is in Final Draft Proposal Instructions are complete and posted Proposal worksheet is complete and posted Program was officially advertised on July 31, 2008 Proposals will be due August 25, 2008 Selections will be announced August 29, 2008 Funded Cooperative Agreements will be signed NLT September 15, 2008 Installation of equipment will begin as soon as possible consistent with existing maintenance schedules

5 Federal Aviation Administration Runway Safety NextGen Initiatives May 15, 2008 Project Status continued Data gathering and acquisition will begin 30 day after approvals of installation, training programs etc. have been completed for each aircraft and crew FAA will publish interim reports per the agreed schedule in the TEMP and a final report around December 2011.
