The 7 Greatest Things on Earth

What Is the Greatest Thing? Is it the wonders of the earth? Is it the technological advancements of men? Is it the philosophies of great thinkers? Is it the gifts of philanthropists?

The Greatest Possession The greatest possession is not some material item bought with money The greatest possession is the soul of man – it has the greatest potential for good (Eccl. 12:7; Mt. 10:28; Mt. 16:26; Lk. 12:20; Jas. 1:21; 1 Pet. 1:22).

The Greatest Problem The greatest problem is not world hunger, poverty, lack of education or health care, natural disasters, overpopulation, national debt, etc. The greatest problem is sin – it has the greatest potential of harm (Gen. 3:1ff; Isa. 59:1-2; Rom. 3:23; 6:23; 1 Jn. 3:4; 5:17)

The Greatest Price The greatest price paid was not for some expensive item, like art, a car, a house, etc. The greatest purchase price paid is the blood of Jesus – it has the greatest ability to cleanse (Mt. 26:26-28; 27:24; Rom. 3:25; 5:9; Eph. 1:7; 2:13; Heb. 9:12,14; 1 Pet. 1:19; 1 Jn. 1:7; Rev. 1:5; 5:9)

The Greatest Power The greatest power is not natural or man- made The greatest power is the gospel of truth – it has the greatest ability to enlighten and liberate (Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-2; 1 Tim. 1:10)

The Greatest Principle The greatest principle is not utilizing your maximum potential, self-preservation, etc. The greatest principle is love – it has the greatest capacity to change the world for good (Jn. 3:16; 15:12-13; Mt. 22:37-29; 1 Cor. 13:13; 1 Jn. 3:16; 4:8ff)

The Greatest People The greatest people are not the rich, the famous, the altruistic, the world-leaders, the war generals, etc. The greatest people are the Lord’s church – they are the object of Christ’s love (Eph. 1:23; 2:16,19-21; 3:10; 4:4; 5:23-27)

The Greatest Person The greatest person is not a man or woman The greatest person is God – he is King Most High over all the earth; his court is the Supreme Court (Psa. 47; 95:6; Eccl. 12:13-15; Isa. 45:9; Rom. 1:25; Heb. 4:13; Rev. 20:11)
