Contact with European Mississippi river In the 1800s,they moved west of the Mississippi river. In 1846 U.S government moved them to Kansas , temporarily. They started collecting plain Indian traits like hunting and being more organized .

Legends A Native American This is a legend that Potawatomi tell. Earth maker created three types of people. The he white people were not cooked enough. The black skin people are over baked and the red people became many tribes including the Potawatomi tribe were baked perfect.

Homes This is a village In the past, each Potawatomi tribe had a chief. The chief would be from one of the leading family. Now the chief is the leader of more than just one village.

Where they lived The Potawatomi lived in the south-eastern part of Michigan. Most Potawatomi's live in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Ontario, Canada, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

The roles of people The men hunted and fished and the women planted and harvested crops. The men and women do story telling, artwork, and traditional medicine. The Indian kids have chores and less time to play, just like us and they had toys and dolls to play with. The older kids played lacrosse for men and, double shinny for girls.
