The Presentation of the Child Jesus

Because Jesus was the firstborn, Mary and Joseph brought Him to Jerusalem when he was 40 days old. What do we know about the number 40 when it is used in the Bible? Centuries before, when all the first-born in Egypt were put to death, God had spared the first-born of the Israelites. That was why the firstborn son was always brought to the temple. The first-born son was "presented" to the Lord. In other words, he was consecrated to the Lord. As a baby you too might have been presented to the Lord. When would this have been?

This is Mary and Joseph on their way to the temple. What is Joseph carrying? Why?

Who else besides Mary and Joseph is in this picture? Look up this person’s words when he saw Jesus

Who do you this person is holding the baby Jesus? What were her words?

Both Anna and Simeon saw something in Jesus. What did they see when they looked at him?

How do think Mary and Joseph might have been affected by what they heard?
