 Find out how to help your child with Maths calculations  Understand how children use and apply their knowledge in Maths  New assessment procedures in Maths  What we are doing about Maths homework.

 Addition  Add numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally  Solve addition word problems  Confidently add: 1. a two-digit number and ones 2. a two-digit number and tens 3. two two-digit numbers 4. three one-digit numbers.

a two-digit number and ones

a two-digit number and tens – this is the first time this has been introduced.

 two two-digit numbers – this is the first time this has been introduced.

 two two-digit numbers

 three one-digit numbers

 Subtraction – objectives for the year  Subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally  Solve subtraction word problems  Confidently subtract: 1. a 2-digit number and ones 2. a 2-digit number and tens 3. two 2-digit numbers 4. three 1-digit numbers.

 Two 2-digit numbers

 Multiplication - objectives for the year  recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables  calculate mathematical statements for multiplication within the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (×), division (÷) and equals (=) signs  solve problems involving multiplication, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication facts, including problems in contexts  Recognise that multiplication questions can be completed in any order, but division can not.

 This is the children putting their Maths knowledge into action  Using and applying involves pupils in solving problems, explaining their methods and results, and using their Mathematics, particularly to reason (mainly through questions)  Using and applying is used in all aspects of the Maths curriculum  It is where pupils use their knowledge and understanding of mathematics to solve problems.

 Let’s have a go at some Using and Applying so you can put into practice what you have learnt here  Puzzles and Problems – Sum up, card sharp  Recipe  Questioning by the teacher

 Reasons behind the removal of levels: ◦ Level driven curriculum ◦ Used to much ◦ Negative impact on teaching  Problems with levels ◦ Are they fair? ◦ Impact on teaching and learning ◦ Not regular enough  Benefits of assessment without levels ◦ Clarity for pupil and parents ◦ Support for pupils

 Purpose of day to day assessment for parents: ◦ Broad picture of where their child’s strengths and weaknesses lie and what they need to improve ◦ Collins objectives ◦ Teachers will assess every objective ◦ Informs about the achievement, progress and wider outcomes of their child across a period of time, not just a one day SNAPSHOT!  You will now ONLY receive narrative comments and an effort grade in the report

 We have recognised at times Sumdog can be quite difficult for KS1 pupils  Feedback from parents and teachers  Element of challenge  Who to contact if you are unhappy with homework  Excellent Maths websites to help your children at home: years/counting Multiplication video
