Warm UP! 1.Name two reasons deforestation happens. There is a need for wood from trees - paper, building materials... We need to clear land to use the space - farming, urbanization, space for recreation

Warm UP! 2. If we cut down trees, what happens to...? a. oxygen? = decrease b. carbon dioxide? = increase Is this bad? YES! Trees do the opposite we do, We breath in oxygen then exhale CO2

Warm UP! 3. Predict: Why is West Virginia the 2 nd coal producer? Think about how coal is made -ancient trees and plants (swamps) - West Virginia = used to be a swamp and was buried by sediments over time.
