6 th Grade Weekly Newsletter Math with Ms. York Week in Review This week students have been introduced to percent's and how to find the percent of a quantity as a rate per 100. Students have found that x percent of a quantity has the same value as x/100 of that quantity. Students can express a fraction as a percent, and find a percent of a quantity in real-world contexts. Students have also figured out how to express a ratio using the language of percent and to solve percent problems. (6.RP.3c). Volume 4 Issue 7 October 30 th, 2015 Take A Peek At Next Weeks Math!  Monday 11.2 Lesson 28: Solving Percent Problems  Tuesday 11.3 Lesson 29: Solving Percent Problems  Wednesday 11.4 End of Module Review  Thursday 11.5 End of Module Assessment  Friday 11.6 End of Module Assessment IMPORTANT Students have their TOPIC C QUIZ that needs to be SIGNED & CORRECTED!! ELA with Mr. Knowles *All students are required to read at least three AR books every marking period. One of these books has to be based on Social Studies. AR books are due by November 18 th. This past week students read chapters 7-8 of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. For each chapter students had to identify and journal the main idea, unfamiliar vocabulary words, and collaborate effectively with peers. Students were also on Edmodo.com to take a quiz for chapters 1-6. ELA Next Week Next week students will continue Module #1, Unit 1. Students will connect different stages of The Hero’s Journey to the events from ch You can find Module #1 here: arts arts Social Studies Next Week Next week students will continue working on their essay. We will move forward to Mesopotamia where the first written code of laws from Hammurabi were enforced. Hammurabi believed the punishment should fit the crime but favored the upper class. The phrases, ‘An eye for an eye’ and ‘a tooth for a tooth’ were the basis of his laws. Social Studies With Ms. Hall This Week This week students discussed the new compelling question, ‘Did the early civilizations adapt to their environment or change the environment to meet their needs?’ They have been working on finding evidence from a lesson to answer question then taking those answers, arranging them in chronological order, and finally writing an essay. Students are unearthing information about Skara Brae, the first Neolithic village on the Orkney Islands.
