Maria Teresa Natale Berlin 24 October 2005 Development of "Museo & Web": realization of a CMS for museums and other cultural institutions Ministerial NEtwoRk for Valorising Activities in digitisation

Maria Teresa Natale Berlin 24 October 2005 The idea of providing an instrument that could be directly consulted on line and that would contain the main indications required for developing and managing a quality web site, in this case of a museum, derives from the experience of those who operate on line and who daily contend with the problems linked to the accessibility and quality of the cultural contents. Museo & Web: origin

Maria Teresa Natale Berlin 24 October 2005 Museo&Web 1 ‘Museo&Web - Planning Kit for a Quality Site for Small and Medium Sized Museums’ Project elaborated by the MINERVA Italian working group on quality. Realised by the board for the creation of a web prototype for public cultural web sites.

Maria Teresa Natale Berlin 24 October 2005 Museo & Web and MINERVA Museo & Web formed the occasion for transferring many of the experiences matured within the sphere of the Minerva Project: Handbook for quality in cultural Web sites: improving quality for citizens ten European Quality Principles for cultural Web sites As regards accessibility Italian law no. 4 of 9 th January 2004, Dispositions for promoting access of disabled subjects to computer tools (so called Stanca Law), followed by a decree with twenty-two requirements for accessibility, following the guidelines edited by W3C..Dispositions for promoting access of disabled subjects to computer tools

Maria Teresa Natale Berlin 24 October 2005 Why a prototipe for museum? The choice to develop a prototype destined for a middle-small sized museum is based on the observation that in Italy, and in Europe generally, local and territorial museums are very widespread, but are often devoid of their own Internet sites. In fact, being small institutions, they are often lacking in economic and human resources.
