Today we will… Understand why it was important for Britain to have a shipbuilding industry

1. Britain needed to trade goods with other countries (cargo ships)

2. Passenger liners took people abroad and could be sold for lots of money to companies Famous Ships include: Titanic Lusitania Queen Mary

3. The British Navy needed ships to defend the island HMS – Her/His Majesty’s Ship

4. Some British industries rely on ships such as oil tankers and fishing boats

5. Ferries were needed as vital types of transport (especially Scotland) Cal Mac – Dunoon, Millport, Scottish Islands Stena Line Scotland/England to Ireland
