Chopsticks

What are Chopsticks? They are a pair of sticks, usually wooden that are used for eating Asian food. Chopsticks originated in China but migrated to other Asian countries such as Japan, Vietnam and Korea. They have been around for at least 5,000 years, and were developed during the Shang Dynasty between

Kuai-tzu It is the Chinese word for Chopsticks Which means “quick little fellow”

How to use chopsticks Hold one chopstick between your thumb and middle finger. Position the chopstick so that it lies on the base of your thumb (where it connects to your hand). Should not touch the forefinger (finger next to the thumb). Place the other chopstick between your thumb and forefinger. The side of your chopstick should rest against the tip of your thumb.

Continues- how to use Chopsticks The top (not the tip) of the chopstick should rest against the pad (part where your fingerprint is) of your forefinger. Keep the chopstick parallel. Keep the bottom chopstick still as you practice moving the top chopstick toward the bottom one. Use the technique to position the chopsticks around a piece of food. Hold it firmly as you lift it toward your mouth.

Eating with chopsticks requires attention to special manners Take your seat at the table and do not pick up your chopsticks until the host does. Begin by eating some of the rice in your bowl, before you take food from the dishes in the center of the table. This shows that you are not greedy. When you begin taking food from the dishes, you should always choose the piece that is nearest to you. You should not pick through the dish to take only your favorite parts. Following this rules shows that you are not selfish and that you are grateful for all of the food.

Continues- special manners Never bang your chopsticks on the table or play with them. This is considered rude. When you finish eating rest them beside the bowl. Always hold your chopsticks together in one hand. The Chinese believe they symbolize a couple that should not be separated.
