What is surface area
To find the surface area, you will find the area of each face in a 3-D object. Then, add all of the areas together. Hint, it might be easier to draw the shapes’ nets or make a chart before finding surface area.
Finding surface area using a chart. Step one: name your faces. 3 ft Front Back Left right bottom top
Step 2: list your measurements faceslengthwidth Front3ft Back3ft Left3ft Right3ft top3ft bottom3ft
Step 3= find the area of each face. facelengthwidtharea Front3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Back3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Left3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Right3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² top3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² bottom3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² 3ft
Step 4: Add all of the surface areas together. If the same number is repeated over and over, you can multiply facelengthwidtharea Front3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Back3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Left3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Right3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² top3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² bottom3ft 3ftx3ft=9ft² Total surface area 9ft² x 6= 54ft²
Let’s do some together!!! 9 ft 2 ft
12 ft 6ft 4ft
Using nets Step one: draw the net for the shape given. 5ft
Step 2: list the measurements for each shape 5ft
Step 3: find the area of each shape using the measurements 5ft 25ft² 5ft
Step 4: add all of the areas together 25ft²+25ft² +25ft² +25ft²+25ft² +25ft² = 150ft² Or 25ft² X 6= 150ft² 5ft 25ft² 5ft
Let’s do some together 6 ft 7ft
