Format Use standard business letter format Date Reader’s address Salutation Body Closing Signature

Lead Introduce yourself to the reader by identifying your interest, role, group, or angle for writing Do not begin by stating your name! Connect with the reader; understand that your are writing to one person or one small group Explain your purpose. State your purpose/thesis clearly and concisely.

Major Point 1 State the most important idea that supports the thesis Include evidence that develops the idea Explain each piece of evidence and speak directly to the reader of your letter Make sure that you use persuasive appeals that are appropriate for your reader Sum up the paragraph

Major Point 2 State the next idea that supports the thesis Include evidence that develops the idea Explain each piece of evidence and speak directly to the reader of your letter Make sure that you use persuasive appeals that are appropriate for your reader Sum up the paragraph
