Merriman questioned the legality of the sponsors’ decision. 12. The title “My Vice in America’s Future” was very appropriate because by using sign language, Merriman added to the meaning of voice. 13. She may have insisted because she was able to communicate, even if it was not in the accustomed way. 14. She showed it didn’t need to be limited only to spoken words.
