SPONGE  Some people have brown eyes, some have blue, and some have green.  Some people have earlobes attached directly to their head, while others have earlobes that hang loose.  Where do people get these different traits? 2.How are they passed from one generation to the next?

Sponge SpongeBob’s aunt and uncle, SpongeWilma and SpongeWilbur, have the biggest round eyes in the family. Wilma is believed to be heterozygous for her round eye shape, while Wilbur’s family brags that they are a pure line. Complete the Punnett square to show the possibilities that would result if Sponge Wilma and Sponge Wilbur had children.

Sponge Mr. Whipple had a rose that was red with the genotype Of RR and Mrs. Whipple had a rose that was Yellow with the genotype of YY. Complete a Punnett square for what their offspring would look Like.

SPONGE What do you get when you cross a bridge with a Bicycle? +

Vocabulary Heredity-The passing of traits from parent to offspring Dominant trait-A trait observed when at least one dominant Allele for a characteristic is inherited. (B) Recessive trait-A trait that is apparent only when two Recessive alleles for the characteristic Are inherited. (b) Genes-Segments of DNA that carry hereditary instructions Located on chromosomes and passed from parent To offspring.

Alleles- Alternative forms of a gene that govern the same Characteristics (Bb, bb, BB) Genotype- The inherited combination of alleles Phenotype-An organism’s inherited appearance Probability- The mathematical chance that an event will occur. Punnett Square-A tool used to visualize all the Possible combinations of alleles From parents. Bb bb B b Bb BB

the state of having two identical alleles of a particular gene (eg AA, aa). Homozygous- Heterozygous- The state of having two different alleles of a specific gene. (Aa, Bb)

Sponge The allele for a cleft chin, C, is dominant among Humans. What would be the results from a cross Between a woman with the genotype Cc and a man With the genotype cc? Create a Punnett Square Showing this cross. Cc cc Cc cc CcCc c

Take Your Chance You have two guinea pigs you would like to breed. Each has brown fur and the genotype Bb. What Are the chances that their offspring will have white fur with the genotype bb. Try this to find out. Stick a piece of masking tape on both side of two Quarters. Label one side of each quarter with a Capital B and the other side with a lowercase b. Toss both coins 50 times, making notes of your Results each time. How many times did you get the Bb combination? What is the probability that the next Toss will result in bb?

Sponge You have two guinea pigs you would like to breed. Each has brown fur and the genotype Bb. What are the chances that their offspring will have white fur with the genotype bb?

Sponge A curly eared cat mated with a cat that had normal ears. If half the kittens had the genotype Cc and curly ears, And the other half had the genotype cc and normal ears, Which was the allele for curly ears?

Sponge Michael has a dog that is purebred for a golden lab which is dominant. He just found out his friend has a standard poodle who is purebred recessive. If the two dogs had babies, what percentage of the pups would be purebred?

Sponge Amy was heterozygous for rolling tongue which is Dominant and Doug is homozygous for non-rolling Tongue. Create a punnett square to show the possible Outcomes of their offspring.

Sponge  If Mrs. Essary was dominant for the trait of a abnormally long second toe (eeww!) (TT) and her husband was recessive for a short second toe (tt), what is the probability that their children would have a normal (I mean) small short toe?
