March 18, 2010 McIninch CHS Welcome members INTRODUCTIONS

PURPOSE OF THE COMMITTEE SERVE AS AN INFORMATION AND QUESTION EXCHANGE

 MANCHESTER/HOOKSETT/CANDIA  NH’S oldest public high school  2,205 students now!  3 towns & 60 countries  200 employees daily  5 administrators  7 guidance counselors

 Over 200 course selections for students  Leveled classes 1 – 4  Competency based  Weighted GPA for class rank  SPED and ELL  Demographics

 Classes are aligned w/ NH Frameworks standards  The knowledge we want the students to know! What is essential learning.  Similar outcomes for similar classes – depth and scope may differ in levels but not the competencies  Using rubrics to indicate acceptable performance  ‘engaging scenarios’ = practical application of learning

The GPS method…  Measuring student progress in a common method to insure equality in the grading process.  Formative assessment – acquiring knowledge  Summative assessments – measuring knowledge  The ‘re-do’ or ‘second chance’ assessment process

 College placements - 4 year  AP Scores  Math Team  SAT & ACT scores  Granite State Quiz Bowl  Art & Music all state  Honor roll & overall success

 Dropout rate is still high  Promotion rate for incoming freshmen  A few areas relating to class size  Resources / technology/hard goods

CHS has not achieved AYP However, CHS has improved overall test scores every year!

 More credit recovery  Virtual Learning Academy  GO Manchester  Reverse scheduling  Writing /reading and numeracy prompts  Focused monitoring
