Lab Write-ups

Grading Lab reports are graded with a maximum of 30 points. The report is broken down into 6 sections Each section is worth a different amount Each section is graded using a rubric.

Section 1: Introduction (4 pts) What is the objective of the lab? How does the lab connect to class? Should be 3-5 sentences and gives the reader an idea of what the lab was all about.

Section 2: Materials and Procedure (6 pts) DO NOT LIST MATERIALS. DO NOT LIST PROCEDURE. Write in a paragraph form with complete sentences. Explain what was done and what materials were used. BE SURE TO INCLUDE HOW THE OBJECTIVE WAS ANSWERED!

Section 3: Data collection (4 pts) Include a 2-3 sentence introduction to explain what the table and/or graph are showing. Needs to be done on a computer.

Section 4: Data Analysis (4 pts) This is the mathematical portion of the lab. Include a 2-3 sentence introduction to explain what the calculations are showing. This is the ONLY section that can be done by hand (not typed) Show all work!

Section 5: Experimental Improvement (8 pts) There are two types of experimental improvements Your results were not be ideal because… 1) Environmental or equipment constraints – What factors could have caused the difference between the actual result and the ideal result, – AND EXPLAIN WHY this could have effected the result. 2) Your procedure was flawed – How can you fix the experimental procedure so that next time your results are closer to ideal? AND EXPLAIN WHY these changes will help.

Section 6: Conclusion (4 pts) 3-5 sentences explain what was learned through the experience of the lab. Include your result and how it compares to the ideal (usually the % error). – Percent error = (actual – experimental)/actual

More about lab reports Must be typed. Can be ed if printer is not working or to save paper. – You will receive a rubric back with comments. Due less than a week after the completion of any lab.
