Our inquiry into effective pedagogy for our Pasifika girls What are the issues from research? What do we think are the issues for our girls? What do we already do and how effective is it? What approaches do we need to trial to see if more effective? Outcome: Co-construct 7 principles of effective pedagogy for your Pasifika girls. Decide on our next steps.

General Issues identified from research: The individual and group experience of prejudice and discrimination Too few opportunities to engage with challenging texts and materials Lack of recognition of the experiences, skills and needs of students Lack of provision of language and literacy opportunities that foster achievement Lack of analysis of Pasifika learners’ assessment results to determine actions to accelerate progress Lack of innovative approaches to engage Pasifika families & communities Low expectations For some Pasifika students poverty can affect their learning

Which do you think are the issues for your Pasifika ākonga? Individually prioritise what you think are the issues are. 1- Top issue 8- bottom issue Now brainstorm the evidence that supports your thinking. Write on the strips. Share with the group.

What are the needs of your Pasifika learners?

Analysis What do we already do well? How do you know? What do we need to focus on? How will we know if it will make a difference?

What are our next steps? What data do we need to collect? surveys interviews observations- of who- why teacher voice student voice Time spent on tasks
