European Explorers Who, What, Why, Where, When Dude…What’s up with that hat?

The Big Three The New World (The Americas) was an incredible land of resources for several countries. England Spain France

What In The World Is A Conquistador? A CONQUISTADOR (kon-KEE-stah-dor) is a Spanish explorer who searched for wealth and land in the Americas. Conquistador! Sounds like the name of a potato chip, doesn’t it? “Enjoy a big bag of Conquistadors while watching the game this Saturday!” OK. Hat or portable chip bowl? Who are they trying to fool?

So…What’s So Desirable About The New World???????? FORTUNES: Riches and wealth in the form of land, resources and the potential for “ GOLD ”. OPPORTUNITIES: A chance to become a landowner and/or “ NOBILITY ”. CHALLENGES: The New World had to be conquered, so it presented “ ADVENTURE ”.

Expeditions The European Explorers, which included the Conquistadors (still sounds like a snack food to me) accomplished their goals by going on EXPEDITIONS, which are long journeys with a specific purpose in mind.

OK. I’m finished. Now it’s your turn to work. Using your textbook, finish the packet you have been working on. Hey you! Yeah, YOU! I’m watching you. Now, put that flame thrower away and get busy!
