Tips and Piecework Unit 1 Lesson 5

Objectives  Determine total income earned from a combination of regular wages and tips.  Use the total number of items produced and the piece rate to estimate and calculate wages.

Recall  To calculate a worker’s total income with tips: Calculate the regular wages (hourly rate x hours) Add the amount of tips earned to the regular wages  To calculate piecework pay: Multiply the number of items times the pay for each item

Tips  You work at a local burger joint and make $3.00 an hour waitressing. You work 7 hours and make $ in tips. What did you make total during your 7 hour shift?

Tips - Solution  You work at a local burger joint and make $3.00 an hour waitressing. You work 7 hours and make $ in tips. What did you make total during your 7 hour shift? $3.00 x 7 hours = $21.00 $ $ = $146.25
