Hays, Kansas, is located in Ellis county. It’s the biggest city in Northwest Kansas. The city is at the crossroads of Interstate 70 and US Highway 183.

Hays, Kansas was founded in 1867 as the south branch of the Union Pacific Railroad. Hays was named after Fort Hays. In the mid 1870 more farmers started to come to Hays and brought red winter wheat with them. Hays was starting to be a agricultural area.

The population in Hays is over 21,000 and is growing very fast. The area takes up a little over 20 square Kilometer.

The area has a total crimes in Hays is in 2012.The average crime rate is 292.8
