ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DECK Safe navigation of the ship Correct loading & unloading of cargoes Act as commercial centre to ensure that the ship is profitable Deck officers need management and leadership skills

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ENGINE Responsible for Maintenance & safe operation of all machinery This includes Ship's engine, power generation, electrics, instrumentation, air-conditioning, plumbing and cargo-handling equipment

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CATERING Responsible for Purchases, stows and prepares food for the ship's workforce Maintains The galley, mess decks, lounges, library, laundry room, reefers, and steward storage spaces

IMPORT AND EXPORT PROCEDURE An import is a good brought into a jurisdiction, especially across a national border, from an external source. The party bringing in the good is called an importer. An import in the receiving country is an export from the sending country.

EXPORT In International Trade, "exports" refers to selling goods and services produced in the home country to other markets. Export of commercial quantities of goods normally requires involvement of the customs authorities in both the country of export and the country of import.

ROAD HAULIERS Definition A third party logistics service provider (3PL) for road transportation on behalf of the consignee Hire and reward service basis A Permit ( License to carry other party goods) Export Movement - Pick up MT Container at Depot and deliver to the shipper place - Once the cargoes fully stuffed, then it will truck out and deliver to port Import Movement - Pick up laden container at port and deliver to shipper place - Once unloaded the cargoes and the empty container will be returned to MT Container Depot

Transhipment Definition The shipment of goods or containers to an intermediate destination, and then from there to yet another destination. Reasons To change the means of transport during the journey (for example from ship transport to road transport) To combine small shipments into a large shipment, dividing the large shipment at the other end. Transshipment usually takes place in transport hubs. Takes place in designated customs areas, thus avoiding the need for customs checks or duties, otherwise a major hindrance for efficient transport

Cargo Consolidation Definition Combining Cargo of many consignees into one lot and then prepare it for shipping Consolidation service typically involves the cargo transportation to the stuffing point, stuffing of cargo in container, custom process of shipping documents, and finally re-packing if necessary for delivery From LCL to be combined into another consignment for FCL status Also known as Cross Docking ( warehouse activities) Consolidation can significantly reduce the cost of moving smaller volumes of goods by moving the goods together. The shippers could save a lot of shipment and freight cost.
