Switzerland of Ohio Local School District CCP Informational Meeting January 5, 2016

What is College Credit Plus (CCP) Replaced PSEO in Allows college-ready students in grades 7-12 to take college courses for dual credit No cost to students/families SOLSD offers a large number of courses

CCP terminology “in-house” – students that take courses while staying at their home school “on-campus” – students that travel to the college campus to take courses

CCP terminology cont’d Face-to-Face – instructor is in the classroom with students Distance Learning – instructor is broadcast through video conferencing On-line – instructor posts information and assignments on-line for student to complete

Through the Ohio Appalachian Collaborative Straight A Grant, SOLSD has more in-house course offerings than any other school district in the area.

CCP in SOLSD Partnered with 2 colleges to offer “in-house” courses 7 SOLSD teachers credentialed “On-Campus” students attending 4 campuses

CCP in SOLSD Fall – offered 13 courses “in-house” 38 total credits offered “in-house” 52 students participating “in-house” Students range from taking 3 to 13 semester hours of course work. Total of 326 credit hours this fall

CCP in SOLSD 22 additional students attend “on-campus” at four different colleges Changing the traditional high school day blend “in-house and “on campus” blend high school courses and college courses Participate in face to face, online an distance learning courses

CCP in SOLSD Spring – offering 9 courses “in-house” 6 of these are new courses 7 additional on-line course “in-house” Students are also taking after school courses at the Monroe County Center of Belmont College

CCP Facts Students who are eligible may take up to 30 semester hours per school year – no remedial courses Each 3-semester hour course = 1 high school credit Students must meet the high school requirements for graduation CCP courses will appear on high school transcript

No charge to students for textbooks Textbooks must be returned to the district CCP courses will be accepted by public colleges/universities in Ohio Many entry-level courses earned at an Ohio public college are guaranteed to transfer to any other Ohio public college A failing grade will result in reimbursing the district

How do I get started? Submit the Intent to Participate form by April 1 Apply to the college(s) you plan to take courses You must go through the procedures established by the colleges/universities to apply to College Credit Plus and to enroll in the course(s)

Demonstrate you are college-ready with ACT or other placement test Next ACT is February 6 – must register by January 8 th Discuss with your guidance counselor courses that you can take once accepted Students may take courses from more than one colleges simultaneously

Pathways and Planning SOLSD has 4 Pathways created as a guide to studies in Business Health and Human Services STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Arts and Communication

Things to keep in mind CCP is more rigorous, faster pace CCP follows the same curriculum as the college Fewer grades compared to high school courses CCP courses will apply to your college GPA
