KW columns of gggggg KW columns of KWL chart K What I know about people who can get along people with different abilities W What I want to know - People are different. -How they feel when they are sad or happy. - They have different skills or abilities. -What they expect from society. - Each person has his/her point of view. - How they cope with problems which are among them. -They are the members of our society. -We have to play with them and so on.

Aim of using the chart Aim: This chart helped students to talk about different types of people at the beginning of the lesson.By using this chart they’ve learnt that people are different in attitudes. I learnt: Students’ opinions are different and this chart was a good way to express their points of view.

Introducing of word definitions from the textbook ”Accept and value each person”

Word definitions TO FEEL ACCEPTED—it is a feeling of belonging or being OK just a way you are. VALUE– if you value something about someone, you appreciate it and think it’s important. FORGIVE—when you forgive someone, you decide not to feel hurt. RESPECT—when you respect people, you show that you think they are important.

Introducing new words

Aim of “Ready Vocabulary” Aim: To introduce new words for students. I learnt: The process of introducing new text is much simpler when students have ready vocabulary.

“ Accept and value each person” This book introduces diversity and related concepts: respecting differences, being inclusive and appreciating people just the way they are.

Introducing the textbook I was introducing the textbook to students. They were too motivated to understand the content of the book. It grabbed their attention at the beginning.

L column of KWL chart L What I learned -We have to respect each person around us. -They have to feel that they are accepted and valued. -They have to feel that they are important for society. -They have the rights to show their opinions freely. -When we accept and value each other we learn how to get along.

LESSON PLAN AND TIME MANAGEMENT Warm-up –Draw the KWL chart on the board and ask students how we can get along people with different abilities.Students respond and I will fill in the chart, but only two columns K and W-10 mins. Activity l/pre-reading –Introduce them the new vocabulary connected to the text and definitions of new words.Students will read and learn these words- 9mins. Activityll/while-reading –Students will read the text ‘Accept and value each person’.We will discuss about the pictures which are in the text too-15mins.

Activitylll/After reading –Ask students to fill in the last column of KWL chart and tell us what they have learned from the text-5mins. Assessment-Ask students to summarize once more what they learned in the L column of the chart-5mins. Closure-Collect textbooks-1min.

Free Spirit’s Learning to Get Along Series- Help children to learn, understand and practice basic social and emotional skills.Real-life situations, diversity and concrete examples make these read aloud books appropriate for childcare settings, schools and the home.
