goal to ensure equitable sharing of benefits of land, water and ecosystems, both tangible and intangible, and as defined by men and women, for enhancing the sustainable use and stewardship of the natural resource base.

specific objectives are: 1.To improve the opportunities, including access to land and water, of both women and men to engage productively in developing vibrant and sustainable communities and enhance the benefits they enjoy from doing so. 2.To enhance the awareness and capacity of women and men to engage effectively in decision-making and policy development at all levels on water, land and ecosystems. 3.To empower women and men to mitigate any negative impacts of agricultural production and to enhance their ability to restore, rebalance and re-invest in land, water and ecosystems.

3 levels of interactions Gender responsive work Gender specific research –Focal regions –SRPs Innovative gender research

Innovative gender research – first cut –Does gender equity promote sustainable agriculture in vibrant ecosystems? In what ways do women’s and men’s stewardship of natural resources differ? Or are women better stewards of the land? –What are the gender inequality gaps associated with water, land and ecosystems? –Which broader gender-related issues, e.g. population pressure, climate change, etc. need to be identified to ensure food security while safeguarding the planet?

A dialogue with expectations 10 years and 10 percent $339,000 of total $33 million mapped so far – 1% (CIP, IFPRI, ICARDA, Biovrsity, CIAT) Points for Fits within the 3 objectives above Or three areas of interaction Moves beyond understanding Judged Extent to which activity contains gender disaggregated data and analysis of gender differences in the activity planned Extent to which activity explains how actions will result in women’s empowerment, strengthening their access to decision making, improving their access to water, land and ecosystems Extent to which the activity identifies at least one gender-specific objective to be undertaken for mainstreaming or gender specific research
