LIBRARY SWOT James McDish (not his real name)

Library SWOT Agenda  Welcome and Housekeeping for meeting  Attendance record  Define parameters of the SWOT  Break into groups 10 mins  Report back  Where to from here…

Overview  SWOT Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Meeting divides into four equal groups to brainstorm and write down ideas on one of the SWOTs. Discussion areas: Library Skills, Services, Products and Changes in the Environment (both internal and external).

STRENGTHS  Consider: What do we do better as a library than our competitors? Which services are popular?

WEAKNESSES  What services or products do students or staff need to go elsewhere for, what have we missed?

OPPORTUNITIES  What new trends or issues can we tap to develop the library’s support and growth?  Are there any services not yet being offered that are worthy of investigation?

THREATS  What factors might threaten the library’s ability to deliver the best services in the best way?

Where to from Here…  Collation of information will form the first step of our situational analysis. Reference: Welch, L. 2006, “Groundwork: A situation analysis”, in The other 51 weeks: A marketing handbook for librarians, Centre for Information Studies, Wagga Wagga pp
