Sexual Violence

Sexual Assault  Since 1993, rape/sexual assault has fallen by over 60%.  1 in 4 American girls is sexually abused before age 18 (1 in 6 boys). Used to be 3 out of 5 girls.  1 in 6 American women are victims of rape or attempted rape, and one in 33 men. 66% are over age 18. Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN)  Overall, more than 1 in 3 American women will be sexually violated based on these statistics. This does not include general coersion.

Effects Victims of sexual assault are...  3 times more likely to suffer from depression.  6 times more likely to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.  13 times more likely to abuse alcohol.  26 times more likely to abuse drugs.  4 times more likely to contemplate suicide.

Does marrying a religious person prevent child molestation?  1 in 20 men is a child molester (and 1 in 33,000 women).  93% of male molesters are “religious” (a higher percent than the general population.) Child Molestation Research & Prevention Institute he_facts.html he_facts.html

Prostitution A 1991 study by the Council for Prostitution Alternatives, in Portland, Oregon, documented that:  78 percent of 55 prostituted women reported being raped an average of 16 times annually by their pimps and 33 times a year by johns.  These prostitutes also reported being "horribly beaten" by their pimps an average of 58 times a year.
