The Magna Carta was written because the barons were fed up of King John raising taxes, which made them gather armies and fight. The Magna Carta is a peace treaty with 63 rules that all the kings and queens had to obey.in Latin the Magna Carta means Great Charta. It was written 800 years ago on 15 th June 1215 and was sealed by King John with a stamp that looked like this which was made of hot wax. WHY THE MAGNA CARTA WAS WRITTEN?

Attached to this charter is one of the best-preserved impressions of the Great Seal of King John. John appears seated on a throne, holding a sword in his right hand and a sceptre in his left, with the legend (John, by the grace of God King of England and Lord of Ireland). On the reverse is an equestrian portrait of John, riding with his visor open. The legend on this side gives the king’s other titles, (John, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine, Count of Anjou). In the absence of other images, these two impressions are the best likenesses of King John. ABOUT THE SEAL

The building where the Magna Carta was sealed is in Runnemede by the Thames in a memorial. WHERE IS THE MAGNA CARTA?

The 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta will be a commemoration of national and international significance.
