Expository Writing Good “How to” Essays/Presentations

Five Characteristics of Good “How to’s” 1. Be sure to include all steps and arrange them in sequence clearly. 2. Explain why each step is necessary 3. Define any terms that your readers/listeners may not be familiar with. 4. Offer clear descriptions of any tools, materials, or equipment needed to carry out the process. 5. Provide your readers/listeners with a way of determining whether or not the process has been carried out successfully.

Four Characteristics of a Good Presenter 1. Eye Contact 2. Speak loudly, but not too loudly 3. Correct pronunciation and annunciation 4. Slow down
