Schedule for the Day Report to your homeroom class no later than 8:50 a.m.; attendance is mandatory Booklet 1: 75 minutes 15 minute break Booklet 2: 75 minutes Questionnaire: 10 minutes Revised scheduled for the afternoon for Periods 1-4
The OSSLT: What is it? The Ontario Secondary Literacy Test is a standardized test that is administered provincially to ensure that students have acquired the essential reading and writing skills that apply to all subject areas in the provincial curriculum up to the end of grade 9.
What skills are tested? Reading for explicit meaning Reading for implicit meaning Making connections Developing a main idea Organizing information Using conventions Topic development FUNCTIONAL READING 53% OF TOTAL SCORE FUNCTIONAL WRITING 47% OF TOTAL SCORE
During the Test… Students do not receive: –Instruction on any concepts or items from the test –Explanations, definitions, translations or examples of reading vocabulary or writing terminology NO QUESTIONS OF ANY SORT ARE PERMITTED DURING THE TESTING PERIOD.
What to Bring… A clear, plastic baggie containing the following materials: –3-4 pencils –a good eraser –3-4 blue or black pens –bottle of water
What NOT to Bring… Pencil case Electronic devices Knapsacks, bags, purses Jackets, sweaters Food
Tips for Students: Attempt ALL questions and tasks. Write clearly and legibly. –If possible, PRINT and avoid cursive writing Read the questions slowly and carefully. Write only in the space provided. Follow instructions and directions PRECISELY.
