Where is it cold?

Natural Resources- where are they?

Where does everybody live?

Russia is the largest country in the world. The physical location of Russia has a big impact on the climate. Most of Eastern Russia, known as Siberia, is so cold that the soil is permanently frozen. As a result, only 7% of Russia’s land is good for farming.

The location of Russia also makes it very difficult to trade with other countries, because Russia has no access to the major sea lanes that most of the world’s countries use for trading.

Most of Russia’s natural resources are in and west of the Ural Mountains. This hurts trade because the resources are very difficult to get to and transport.

There are areas in Russia that are very radioactive. As a result, natural resources that Russia could trade have been destroyed.
