2 Spanish Banking Many options Differences with the U.S. Only open until 2:00 PM, except one day a week (some) Do not use checks often Long lines Most have similar services and commissions For those under 26, look for “joven account”

3 Opening an Account Until you have your residency number (NIE), you can only open a non-resident account (cuenta de no residente) Some branches will still refuse you without the TIE (Tarjeta de Residencia) Bring your passport with you Make sure they have the option to change to resident account Once you have the NIE, bring it to the bank This may change your bank account number

12 Comunidad de Madrid Payments Information for Comunidad de Madrid TAs only: Your school provides a monthly stipend of 1,115€ Make sure your school has your bank account information Most schools pay by direct deposit although some use checks Fulbright Commission is not responsible for your monthly stipend payments (1,115€). The Commission portion (230€/month) is paid in full at Orientation
