IPY YEAR 2008 Russian activities in the Arctic

Field studies in 2008 Drifting research stations NP-35 and NP-36; Marine expeditions in Russian Arctic marginal seas Arctic basin studies onboard RV “Akademik Fedorov”; Data collected in the Arctic within first IPY year have indicated anomalous development natural processes. It is decided to carry out research aimed on clarification ongoing situation based on:

Expeditions Total: Research expeditions – 68; Reconstruction of observational networks – 11 Arctic and Antarctic expeditions Terrestrial and marine expeditions

Marine expeditions 1.NP-35 and NP-36 complex studies (ocean, atmosphere, sea ice, snow cover and its interactions). 2.“Barneo” ice camp research 3.“Palex” research from mesoscale ice floes polihone. 4.“Arctica-2008” expedition to Arctic basin region on board RV”Akademik Fedorov”. 5.Moorings array on shelf break north of St. Anna Trough. 6.Research from RV “Fritjof Nansen” in Kara and Barents Seas. 7.Research from RV “ Mikhail Somov” in Barents and Kara seas Icomplementary to resupply operations). 8.”Polynya-2008/Transdrift-XIII” expedition on fast ice of Laptev sea. 9.“AVLAP/NABOS-2008” onboard IB “Kapitan Dranitsyn” 10.“Barkalav-2008” expedition on board rv “Ivan Petrov” in Barents, Kara, Laptev and East Siberian Seas. 11.RV“Dalniye Zelentsy” cruise to FJL and Spitsbergen waters.
