CRIME AND PUNISHMENT IN TUDOR TIMES

Crime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If a women spoke too freely or gossiped she would have a brank put over her head to make it painful to talk. If you stole a loaf of bread from the shops then you could be whipped. If you killed someone you could have your head chopped off. Lots of the punishments were very cruel. They did it because they thought that the person would not do it again. The pictures are a bit gross so be prepared!!!!

The pillory The pillory was a T shaped block of wood with holes for the hands in the crossbar of the T. The person being punished would have to stand in the pillory in the middle of the market. People that were watching threw old and yucky food at the person who was in the pillory.

The rack The victim would have to lie on the rack, and then their legs and arms would be tied at either end of the rack. Rollers were then used to stretch the body. This caused terrible pain for the victim.

The manacles It was a very long and tall piece of wood. It had metal bars at the top which your hands would go in. You were hung there until the person who was doing it had made a decision to let the person go.

Hanging A piece of rope was put around the neck making it hard for the person to breathe. The person would be hung from the rope until they eventually died. I think this was a very unpleasant site. People used to get tickets to come and watch this. The people in the shops even sold pies!

The drunkards cloak The drunk person had a barrel on their body They cut a hole for the head the arms and the legs People made fun of the person and laughed at them.

The end! Hope you all liked it
