Ch. 16. lessons 3 & 4 Josiah helped Judah regain its independence. Josiah read “the book of the law” found when repairing the Temple. Judah tried to turn his people back to God. The prophet Zephaniah appeared during Josiah’s reign and condemned the worship of false gods. Zephaniah said that God would allow a remnant to enjoy peace and prosperity. Josiah died in battle against the king of Egypt, and Judah had to pledge loyalty to Egypt.

Ch. 16. lessons 3 & 4 When the King of Babylon defeated Assyria, they also conquered Egypt. Judah was now loyal to Babylon. The king of Judah was not loyal to Babylon. The king of Babylon invaded Judah, destroyed crops and captured Jerusalem. He exiled many people to leave Judah and go to Babylon. King Zedekiah rebelled against Babylon. Babylon invaded Judah 3 times, and destroyed Jerusalem, including the Temple. This was the end of Judah.

God calls us to be cleansed of our sins, first in Baptism and then in the Sacrament of Penance.
