Making Good Choices

What’s the difference between just making a decision and making a good decision?

Making a good decision includes: Critical thinking Good judgment Responsible behavior Considering the risks Attitude

Definition Being able to apply logic and make one’s own decisions. Being receptive to new ideas and willing to analyze issues from different perspectives to develop greater understanding.

Critical thinking allows us to make our own decisions regardless of the opinions of others. The critical thinking process is an essential part of decision-making and should be used during the decision- making experience.

Identify and describe a problem or situation Discriminate between fact and opinion List possible solutions and their consequences Identify personal and family values that conflict with the situation Take a defensible position based on logic

Take a defensible position based on logic. Is it against the law or rules? Is it harmful to me or others? Would I be sorry afterward?

Affects the way we think about things. Weak or strong Influence from others New experiences We can change, we are in control!

How a person feels about a given situation or issue. Developed before, during, or after an event has occurred.

Attitudes, opinions, and fears affect our ability to think critically. Ultimately we, choose whether or not to be in control.

Ex) Move to Price or stay in Logan? 2. Opinion: Price is boring, nothing to do. No friends or family nearby. Fact: Job in Price

3. Move to Price: Commute Travel to Logan every weekend Lose time w/ friends and family Stay in Logan: Friends and family here Job???

4. Lose time with family and friends. 5. Stay in Logan and look for another job.

When Should You Date? Complete this using the critical thinking process
