Institutions responsible for water quantity data collection and reporting: Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (MHS) Hrvatske vode (legal entity for water management) Croatian Environment Agency (CEA) and Croatian Bureau of Stastistics

Meteorological observations are made by Croatian Meterological and Hydrological Service (MHS) in accordance with the regulations of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and national regulation. Observation are made at surface weather stations and upper-air observatories. Meteorological parameters are observed: - pressure - air temperature and humidity - sunshine - wind - snow pack - evaporation - precipitation etc. The meteorological data from several on-line stations can be found on the website or can be obtained on request

Geographical distribution of weather stations in Croatia Mean annual precipitation in Croatia (data )

Hydrological monitoring in Croatia has long tradition. MHS together with Hrvatske vode and the Hrvatska elektroprivreda (Croatian Electricity Enterprise) has established a hydrological monitoring network. Today, the network consists of 561 hydrological stations (surface water). Monitoring of groundwater levels in Croatia is carried out systematically (with respect to the specific situation in karst region). Hydrlogical data that are observed: - water levels - discharge - sediment - water temperature - groundwater levels The measured data are available in the Hydrological Information System (HIS 2000), and can be obtained on request. Hrvatske vode has also established a system of on-line monitoring stations as a supporting tool for operational flood defence activities. The real-time monitored water levels from automatic hydrlogic stations can be found on the website

Hydrological monitoring network in Croatia Water balance of Croatia (data )

Water abstraction and Water use Collection of data: Hrvatske vode (for Water management purposes) Croatian Bureau of Stastistics (used for reporting)

Currently, in Croatia, all of the institutions mentioned are involved in diferent aspects of monitoring (data collection, data quality control, data systematization and reporting) of water quantity data. There is initiative to nominate Hrvatske vode as Nacional Topic Centre for Water, which should enable better and more systematic data flow, data collection, data control, data analysis and development of new products including those from questionnaire and other required by national, EU and other internacional obligations. Harmonization process is ongoing. Preparation of the document are in progress in Hrvatske vode: Long term program of monitoring (harmonization with EU requirements) Harmonization with EU Water Directives reporting requirements
