Liberal Studies

Getting Started First Steps Overview Presentation & Consultation (with Department & Faculty) Getting Started Questions –Establish structure, “ingredients” & media need for portfolios Faculty prepare students for use (adapt PPT, & share examples) Trainings scheduled (student sign-up & tool training early in semester)

Sustaining Elements Gateway/Capstone “anchoring” within curriculum ePortfolios are required, Faculty unified on process & use –Signature Assignments defined –Key word “tags” (learning objectives) agreed upon at dept. level

Incorporating & Sustaining Faculty incorporate working on ePortfolios within course context (class held in lab, peer reviews, timely uploading & grading) Faculty Lead identified & in active touch with Academic Technology Faculty receive their own portfolios & training Planning for accreditation use from start in place

Lessons Learned Set clear, realistic goals & deadlines Portfolios taken seriously at Dept. level –Avoid “scrapbook” last-minute, final semester completion –Digital Literacy (formal/informal web-identity, fear of technology addressed for both faculty & students) –Faculty concerns about employer “buy-in”, & emerging use of digital CV’s –Durable archiving of ePortfolios (have a plan!)
