Renewable Energy: Wind Power Salvador Griñán Egea. 1º Bachillerato Science and Technology. This project is about the Renewable Energy focusing on Wind Power. This is an adaptation in English from the project shown in the conference on the 1st March.

INDEX: 1.Concept of Renewable Energy and Wind Power. 2.Wind turbines. Kinds. 3.The impact of wind turbines on the enviroment. 4.How wind turbines work. 5.Conclusions. 6.Bibliography.

Renewable Energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sun light, rain, tides and geothermal heat, which are newable. Wind Power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using wind turbines to make electricity.

2. Winds turbines. Kinds. Winds turbines is a device that convert kinetic energy from the wind into mechanical energy. Today’s wind turbines are manufactured range of vertical and horizontal axis types. Horizontal axisVertical Axis

Horizontal axis. Horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) have the main rotor shaft and electrical generator at the top of a tower, and must be pointed into the wind. Since a tower produce turbulance behind it, the turbine is usually positioned upwind of its supporting tower..

Vertical axis. Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) have te main rotor shaft arraged vertically. The generator and gearbox can be placed near the ground. The turbines doesn’t need to be pointed into the wind to be effective. Low rotational speed.

3. The impact of wind power on the enviroment. Ecosistem: Birds are in endangered due to the speed of blades. The are atraccted to the big blades. The kilowatt is very expensive. Visual effect: They are placed far away from roads and villages. Acoustic impact. The are very noisy.
