Data and Analysis

Number Lines

Parts of a Number Line Numbers: The first number can be any number. This number line shows whole numbers.

Test Scores on a Number Line What is her lowest score? What is her highest score? Why is it helpful to put her scores on a number line? Mia’s test scores are shown on the number line. Her scores are 90, 86, and 89.

How to Locate Points on a Number Line, Part I The red dot is a point on the number line. Notice that the dot is located on a tick mark. Look at the number below the tick mark — the number is 15. The dot on the number line represents the number 15.

How to Locate Points on a Number Line, Part II Only some of the tick marks on the number line above have numbers below them. Count by ones to see if each tick mark represents one number higher than the number before it. The red dot is 2 tick marks to the right of the number = 48, so the dot represents the number 48.

What numbers do the red dots represent?

Setting Meghan woke up early to eat before school. She was so tired, but she loved breakfast! Meghan was washing her dishes from breakfast when she heard a “BOOM!”  In Meghan’s kitchen  In the morning before school

Setting Meghan wanted to know where the sound had come from. Maybe it was someone trying to break in! She put on a hat and a coat, pulled open her front door, and ran outside. “Oh no!” she cried, as she fell on the ice.  Where does this take place?  When does this take place?

Setting Meghan got up and rubbed her arm. “That hurt!” she thought to herself. She did not remember that there was an ice storm last night. She walked carefully to her backyard to try to find what had made the noise.  Where does this take place?  When does this take place?
