Economic aftermath Lindsey Ballantyne

What damage did 9-11 do to the stock market? The attacks had a significant economic impact on the United States and world markets. The New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange did not open on September 11 and remained closed until September 17. When the stock markets reopened Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) stock market index fell 684 points to a record-setting one-day point decline.

How much did the stock markets decline? DJIA-fall 1,369.7 points its the-largest one- week point drop in history, though later surpassed in 2008 during the financial crisis. It was almost the same as $1.69 trillion drop

Damages after 9-11 Cleaning up after WTC site cost 9 billion dollars Repairing and replacing damaged infrastructure - $9.0 billion Rebuilding the World trade center into smaller buildings -6.7 billion Restoring other damaged buildings-5.3 billion

Loses of New York they lose about 430,000 jobs and $2.8 billion in lost wages, which occurred in the three months following the 9/11 attacks. The economic effects were mainly focused on the city's export economy sectors. New York City was estimated to have declined by $27.3 billion, for the last three months of 2001 and all of The Federal government provided $11.2 billion in immediate assistance to the Government.

Cost of Iraq and Afghanistan The war is costing us about 12 billion dollars a month and if we include Afghanistan it would cost us 16 billion dollars.

The total cost of the 2 wars By the time you add in the costs hidden in the defense budget, the money we'll have to spend to help future veterans, and money to refurbish a military whose equipment and materiel have been greatly depleted, the total tab to the federal government will almost surely exceed $1.5 trillion.
