Do Now: What happened to the dinosaurs? Why is this important? Is it important? Should scientists spend time researching why they died out?

Homework due today Read pages 4 through 9 Write down the terms in bold and then answer them in your notebooks for next class. Open your notebooks and show me the defined terms.

Homework For Friday – Be able to explain the difference between control group and an experimental group when doing a lab / experiment. The steps of the Scientific Method. Be able to explain each step and why it is important. Read pages

New material – from the reading Why is Biology important? We can now cure many diseases that were thought impossible years ago such as Polio. Each new discovery creates new issues. For example – Why do we have nerve endings that feel pain?

To think about What would life be without pain? Would you like to live without pain, ever? What issues would be raised?

New material – from the reading With each new generation and increase in population society has new outbreaks that develop. Science creates theories not guarantees For example- Duckbilled Platypus - mammals give live birth, warm blooded,… Not the Duckbilled Platypus - it lays eggs, but still a mammal.

New material – from the reading Steps of the Scientific Method Scientific Method –Observe –Inference Hypothesis –Experiment –Data Collection –Interpretation –Conclusion (potential to repeat experiment) why?

New material – from the reading Two soil pots (open to page 6 & 7 One is the control (never altered) One is typical but we somehow alter it – over fertilize it. This is the Independent variable (the adding or extra fertilizer).

Before you leave Pick up the trash around you Place your chairs on the tables Have a good day! Remember your homework.
