 During the first trimester of pregnancy, weight gain is usually minimal, although most women experience swelling of the breasts and abdomen.  The second trimester is when women gain more weight and the pregnancy usually becomes apparent.  Normal weight to gain during pregnancy is 25 and 35 pounds.

Prenatal medical care also known as health care during pregnancy, is essential for the health of both the expectant mother and her developing baby. In contrast, a pregnant woman who seeks and actively participates in prenatal care benefits in many ways.

 Exercising plays a big role on what activities during pregnancy because it helps the mother feel better and will make them have the strength they need for labor and delivery. Some types of activities are:  Walking  Kegel exercise

Good nutrition is an important part of prenatal care and a key to a healthy pregnancy. If a pregnant woman does not get enough nourishment, her baby has an increased risk of long-term health problems. Woman usually needs an extra 300 calories per day during the last six months of pregnancy. Main nutrient groups are: Carbohydrates Proteins Fats Vitamins Minerals Water

 Pregnant women need plenty of rest during pregnancy.  Whatever the pregnant woman finds effective, such as:  Taking a nap  Reading a book  Listening to music  Writing in a journal  Sitting outdoors  Enjoying nature

 A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of the pregnancy after less than 20 weeks of fetal development.  Miscarriage is not uncommon.  Between 15 and 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage.

 A generation ago, many people believed that taking baths wasn’t good for pregnant women because the tub water could enter the uterus and cause an infection.  Today, doctors generally agree that tub bathing is safe for most pregnant women.  To reduce the risk of slipping and falling, a pregnant woman should be sure the tub has a nonslip mat and should get into and out of the tub carefully.

 Health risks during pregnancy can come from many sources.  This includes exposure to:  Tobacco Alcohol Illegal drugs  Certain medications X-rays  Chemical hazards Infections

 A drug does not have to be illegal to harm a fetus.  If a drug is not safe to take during pregnancy, the health care provider may recommend a safe substitute.  Products as common as aspirin and antacids can sometimes be harmful.
