Starting Out First things first o Make sure your headset is plugged in, and the headset volume is turned up (or speakers and microphone) o If you are using a laptop, the speakers and microphone may be built-in o Make sure your webcam is also plugged in (we will test the webcam later) Next, you need to check your audio is working o At the top left of your screen, click on Meeting then Audio Setup Wizard… o Follow the instructions on the screen You should do the Audio Setup Wizard every time you enter a new Adobe Connect Session, even as a participant 31/8/2012Adobe Connect Familiarization Sessions 2

Chatting The Chat box is where you type so everyone can see Try typing something in the Chat box now You can change your font colour by clicking the arrow at the top right of the Chat box, then click My Chat Color (sic) and choose your colour You can also change the size of the font in your chat box (for easier reading), as well as private chat to the host, presenter or a participant (private chatting can be turned off by the host) 31/8/2012Adobe Connect Familiarization Sessions 3

Attendees The Attendees box shows the number and names of the hosts, presenters and participants It will also show your status next to your name You can change your status by clicking on the arrow next to the status icon at the top Setting your status is useful for alerting or responding to the host, presenter or other participants Try changing your status now…raise your hand if you’re following so far Make sure you clear your status when you’re done 31/8/2012Adobe Connect Familiarization Sessions 4

Using your Audio and Video The host can choose to enable or disable your audio and video o When your audio has been enabled, you will see the microphone icon Click the arrow next to the microphone icon, then click Connect My Audio Click Allow To adjust your microphone volume, click the arrow next to the microphone icon, then click Adjust Microphone Volume… You can mute your microphone by simply clicking on the microphone icon. It is good practice in a group session to mute your microphone when not talking. o When your video has been enabled, you will see the webcam icon Click the arrow next to the webcam icon, then click Start My Webcam Click Start My Webcam in the Video box, then click Start Sharing so everyone can see you Usually only the host or presenter will be on cam as it can sometimes be “laggy” with too many people on cam at the same time 31/8/2012Adobe Connect Familiarization Sessions 5

Screen Layout The screen layout can be changed by the host o I’ll now change the layout so you can see the different layouts o It is very much up to the host as to how they want the layout to look, depending on their preference and what they are presenting o The host can move sections to different places, resize sections, hide sections, and add new sections o The host can also: set polls upload files (and allow you to upload files) clear or save the chat history change the level of participants to hosts or presenters and more… 31/8/2012Adobe Connect Familiarization Sessions 6
